Plug-in cars with a caravan on the tow bar: you don't see them very often yet, and that has everything to do with weight, air resistance and thus the range. The Slovenian caravan manufacturer has a solution: the Adria Aviva Lite, a family caravan with four berths. Weight: under 700 kilograms.
Electric cars are increasingly dominating the street scene. For those who want to take their caravan on vacation with them, the caravan supply is still limited. This is because caravans have only become larger and more luxurious in recent years. Nevertheless, several caravan manufacturers are developing mobile homes precisely for electric cars (EVs). Like Adria. That brand introduced the Aviva Lite at Camping & Caravan Jaarbeurs: a complete family caravan with a spectacular weight, under 700 kilos.
Backto basics
Modern caravans are hardly inferior to homes in terms of luxury and comfort. But all those extras weigh heavily on the scales, and after air resistance, weight is a limiting factor when it comes to the range of electric cars. Adria has changed tack and come up with a "basic" caravan that harkens back to the days when caravans were simple and austere: the Adria Aviva Lite.
But not too sober either, as there are four berths (including two in the bunk bed), a cozy dinette, a kitchen with refrigerator and plenty of storage space. Nor have the designers been idle: The Aviva Lite looks fresh and youthful, with light wood as the furniture decor and bright colors for the upholstery.
Smart furniture construction
What more do you need? Well, a hot plate, for example. This is missing in the kitchen because, says the Slovenian caravan manufacturer: who cooks inside during the summer vacations when the sun is shining outside? That's why Adria offers a separate induction cooktop that you can place under the awning, next to your barbecue or Skottelbraai. This saves a lot of kilos for a complete gas system including gas bottles.
Furthermore, the weight is kept within limits by clever furniture construction and, for example, clothing and upper cabinets made of textiles, as we also see in folding trailers. There is also plenty of storage space under the seats, but in the form of handy crates that you can already fill at home. Another weight-saving feature: the stove and water heater are missing from the Aviva Lite, although they are available as options if desired. These are all measures taken to keep the weight as low as possible, with a spectacular empty weight of well under 700 kg, while you can load it up to 1,000 kg: an ideal weight for behind most electric cars.
The Adria Aviva Lite 360 DK (body length 414 cm, width 209 cm, price from about 17,000 euros) will be on display at the Camping & Caravan Jaarbeurs, from October 4 to 8, in Jaarbeurs Utrecht.
